Earning my Feathers

Ever since I was a little girl I have always been fascinated by all things Native American. I grew up in a house filled with dream catchers, Native American art, sage, handmade drum sets and anything else my mom and I could get our hands on. I am part Navajo Indian, but this stems from something rooted much further down, perhaps a past life.

Getting to the point,  you know those beautiful headdresses you see on Native American men? Full, thick, huge and powerful headpieces? Those men are warriors, who earned each and every feather.

A warrior would earn a feather each time he had done something that the tribe felt like was a brave act. Each time they had earned a feather, they would either wear it into battle or tie it onto a stick and use it for special occasions. Once they had collected enough feathers, they would bind each and every feather into a headdress. Which only the strongest, bravest and most noble of men had- carrying around his strength and story.

So I am here to share with you a glimpse of my life; my battles, passions, high times, low times, inspiration, challenges, dreams, my strength and how my son changed my life- earning my feathers.
